The A7 (pictured here) is I still think the best driver for the Khorn is the later K55V or K55M. for using as a mid-range horn 511 is better but in a two-way like M19 811 sounds better because the smaller horn pronounces higher frequency better than 511, use some bitumen as dampening material outside of 511 and it'll sound more open with no honkiness and ringing. I have Model 19s in the downstairs kitchen, and modded 63 Khorns in the man cave, and they both are outstanding. Altec Powered by Invision Community, Now that is the toppest of notches you are ever gonna get [Y]. I say LaScala, or Klipschorn because you say 400 horn. The 2019 Klipschorn also offers its own combination of those qualities, one that delights and surprises in some respects (uncolored vocals, surprisingly good spatial performance, much better senses of touch and impact than the average loudspeaker) while disappointing in others (less than the tightest bottom octaves, a trace of grain under strain). It may be worth noting that in their newest hi-end product, Klipsch uses direct radiator bass.
Klipschorn mid range upgrade he builds a couple of different size tractrix horns. 811 is 800Hz, 511 is 500Hz, 311 is 300Hz. As someone else said, I'd be happy with either of them. Be sure to try several listening locations. Although I have had Khorns sound good
Dr. Mbius - Dee is right. I personally don't care for the Altec horns. They just sound "off" and I dunno how else to describe it. I would much sooner go with an EV or JBL, b I have never been a fan of aluminum or titanium tweeters. The Beyma CP-25 is reputed to be a hands-down improvement over the stock EV T-35 tweeter.
